10 Things To Do In Malaga, Spain

Things To Do In Malaga, Spain
Malaga City
Malaga is a beautiful coastal city situated in Andalucia (southern Spain) with a fascinating history and rich culture. It's a very lively city which is full of amazing restaurants and interesting places to visit. I've visited Malaga for around five years now as my parents own a house about an hour away so I thought I'd share a list of things to do in the city for those who wish to visit it and are not as familiar with the area as I am.

1. Go shopping- Malaga's historical centre is an amazing shopping destination as it has lots of quirky individual shops as well as the popular high street chains such as Pull and Bear and Stradivarius. There are a number of unique jewellery, clothing, perfume and Moroccan interior shops located down the small side streets off the main shopping street (Calle Larios) where you can purchase more unusual goods. There are two shopping centres (Larios Centro and Malaga Maria Zambrano) about a 15 minute walk away from the historical centre which contain shops such as H&M, Bershka, Pull and Bear and Primark. There is also an El Corte Ingles department store 5 minutes away from the Larios Centro where you will find high end makeup, clothing and a food hall.

2. Visit the Alcazaba- The Malaga Alcazaba is a Moorish fortress situated in the city's historical centre. It's Malaga's most important landmark and is well worth a visit if you are interested in history or architecture.

3. Visit Malaga Cathedral- Malaga Cathedral is a very beautiful building situated in the heart of the city. It's another great visit for those who enjoy history and architecture or are religious.

4. Go to the beach- Although the beach is often packed with tourists it's still a nice place to visit if you go early enough to get a good sunbathing spot or later on a night when it's not as busy. There are a few beach bars where you can get refreshments throughout the day or an evening meal.

5. Have a drink at La Tetería- La Tetería is a Moroccan tea shop situated next to the Cathedral. It sells a range of unique drinks including teas, infusions, yoghurt shakes and milk shakes as well as amazing desserts. It has a great atmosphere and is a lovely place to sit and have a rest in the afternoon.

6. Visit the Puerto de Malaga- The Puerto de Malaga is a great place to go for an evening meal as it has a wide range of restaurants (I particularly like Amigos Indian and Mexican restaurant). There are also a few shops (mostly boutiques) and on Sundays there's a market selling clothes, food and jewellery.

  7. Go to Hammam Al Andalus spa- The Hammam Al Andalus spa is the perfect place to relax. It has Arab baths at a range of temperatures, a steam room, a hot rock room and a range of treatments. You are given an hour and a half to do whatever you want and, if you have paid for a massage or other treatment, you will be called into the treatment room in pairs at some point during your session. All massages are done with a scented oil of your choice and, if you really love the scent, you can purchase bottles of these in the entrance to take home with you. Guests are also provided with mint tea in the seating area upstairs. The interior of the spa is inspired by the Moorish design of famous buildings such as the Alhambra palace in the city of Granada, it is beautifully decorated with colourful tiles and intricate pillars. I absolutely loved my visit to the spa and really recommend it to anyone visiting the city.

8. Have a meal at one of the many restaurants in the city centre- There are a wide variety of restaurants in the centre of Malaga, many of which serve traditional Spanish tapas dishes. My favourite places to eat are El Piyayo (although there aren't many vegetarian options) and El Vegetariano de Alcazabilla. El Piyayo is a tapas bar which serves a range of meat and fish dishes as well as salads and a few vegetable dishes, it's really close to the main shopping street (Calle Larios). El Vegetariano de Alcazabilla is a vegetarian restaurant near the Alcazaba which serves creative vegetarian dishes. There's a good variety of meals to choose from and there're even a few vegan dishes on the menu, the food is so nice that even those who aren't vegetarian are likely to enjoy it.

9. Visit the Picasso Museum- Malaga is the birthplace of Picasso and so it follows that the Picasso museum in the centre is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city. It's a great visit for all art lovers and those who enjoy culture.

 10. Visit the Botanical Gardens- Malaga's beautiful botanical gardens are a great place to stroll round during the day as they are a lot more shaded than the rest of the city. They have a wide variety of trees, plants and flowers and there are sometimes activities on offer for children and families.

Malaga is a city that's well worth a visit as it has lots more amazing attractions. It's a lovely place to visit in the summer and, for those who'd like to experience the culture of the city, the annual Malaga Feria also takes place in August.

August Favourites 2015

August Favourites 2015

I've been buying quite a lot of both fashion and beauty items this month and so it was really difficult to select my favourites, but I finally managed to whittle my list down to the top 9 items that I've been loving throughout the month of August:

Floral Top
Bershka Top (£17.99)- http://www.bershka.com/gb/en/woman/woman-/shirts-%26-blouses/bsk-print-blouse-with-lace-hem-c706517p6249010.html
My first favourite item this August is this amazing floral print top from Bershka. It's such a summery piece and looks really pretty paired with denim shorts and cute sandals or flats.

Ripped / Distressed Denim Shorts
Another favourite is these ripped denim shorts from Pull&Bear. They're such a beautiful wash and I adore their distressed look. They go with pretty much anything and are perfect for the warmer summer days, but also look great with black tights when it's slightly cooler outside.

Beauty Favourites
Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara (£7.99 at Superdrug),  Maybelline Dream Bronze BB Cream (£6.99 at Boots), The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer Highlighter (£17.49 at Superdrug)
Since discovering the Mabelline Lash Sensational Mascara I've been using it practically every day and it has quickly become one of my favourite mascaras of all time! It adds so much length and volume to my lashes as any good mascara should but, due to it's unique brush shape, manages to do so without clumping. For this reason, I consider it to be one of the best drug store mascaras I've ever used.

The Maybelline Dream Bronze BB Cream has been another one of my favourite products this month as it adds a subtle summer shimmer to the skin which looks beautiful in the sun. I use this product mixed in with the Maybelline Dream Pure BB Cream in light as my skin tone is too pale to use the bronze BB cream on its own, but I currently have a tan from being on holiday so a mixture made up of equal parts of each product is the perfect shade for me at the moment.

Another beauty product I've been loving for the month of August is the Mary-Lou Manizer Highlighter by The Balm Cosmetics. This seems to be a very popular product and I have to admit that I'm also completely obsessed with it; it's extremely well pigmented and gives the skin a gorgeous glow. On top of this it's also beautifully packaged!

Black Crop Top
Stradivarius Crop Top (sold out online but was relatively inexpensive)- http://www.stradivarius.com/gb/en/
I own this Stradivarius crop top in both black and cream as I love the design and think it's a versatile and practical piece. It's a good summer basic as it goes well with everything but the lace and button details make it a bit more unique and stylish than a plain crop.

Statement Necklace and Body Spray
Primark Necklace (£5), Victoria's Secret Sheer Love Body Spray (£9.19)- https://www.victoriassecret.com/
This Primark necklace is one of my favourite jewellery items that I purchased this month. I feel as though Primark has really upped it's jewellery game recently and this necklace is a prime example of that as it's absolutely stunning! I love the style of it and think it would really make a statement when worn with more basic clothing items, it would also look great with black or white lace.

The Sheer Love body spray by Victoria's Secret has been one of my favourite scents for the month of August. It has a gorgeous floral fragrance (white cotton & pink lily) which is subtle enough not to be over powering but strong enough that it lasts for a reasonable amount of time on the skin.

Black Studded Chelsea Boots
Stradivarius Studded Chelsea Boots (£35.99)- http://www.stradivarius.com/gb/en/shoes/boots-and-ankle-boots/studded-chelsea-ankle-boots-c1399019p6008024.html?categoryNav=1399019&colorId=040
My final August favourite is this amazing pair of studded Chelsea boots from Stradivarius. I absolutely fell in love with these shoes as soon as I saw them! Their studs give them a beautiful twist on the classic Chelsea boot and I really like the brogue style detailing towards the toe of the shoe. These shoes are easy to style as they look great with a range of different outfits and are perfect for when it begins to get colder outside.

These are all of my favourites for the month of August. I can't wait to see what other great items come into the shops for Autumn / Winter!

KIKO Cosmetics Lipstick Collection and Review

KIKO Lipstick Swatches
(left to right): KIKO Smart Lipstick shade 920, KIKO Luscious Cream Lipstick shade 516, KIKO Velvet Mat Lipstick shade 613, KIKO Velvet Mat lipstick shade 611, KIKO Smart Lipstick shade 914, KIKO Smart Lipstick shade 922, KIKO Luscious Cream Lipstick shade 509, KIKO Velvet Mat Lipstick shade 607
I first discovered KIKO Cosmetics during a holiday to Spain three years ago and have been a massive fan of their products ever since. I especially love KIKO's collection of lipsticks as it offers a wide range of both colours and textures, ranging from bold options to more subtle ones, in order to provide something which suits the taste of every customer.
I currently own eight KIKO lipsticks and I love every one! The colours are extremely well pigmented and look gorgeous on the lips, the formulas aren't too drying (although some are more hydrating than others) and I personally find them to be very long lasting. I have read reviews in the past which claim that KIKO lipsticks wear away relatively quickly but, in my experience, their longevity depends on which type of lipstick you buy and how sheer the formula is.
Another great thing about KIKO lipsticks are that they are such an affordable price. They are extremely cheap for such great quality products and so are a great alternative to more high end lipsticks.
KIKO Lipsticks

Smart Lipsticks (£3.90)
KIKO Smart Lipsticks come in a range of shimmery and matte shades, they are nourishing on the lips and last a long time. My favourite of the Smart Lipsticks that I own is the shade 920 which is a shimmery pale pink, it's a beautiful colour and works well with a wide variety of eye makeup looks. Another Smart Lipstick that I own is the shade 914, this is a deep berry shade which is perfect for Autumn / Fall makeup looks. The third Smart Lipstick I have is the shade 922 which is a shimmery lilac, it's a great option for those who want to be a bit different but is subtle enough that it doesn't look tacky.

Luscious Cream Lipsticks (£6.90)
The KIKO Luscious Cream Lipsticks have quite a glossy appearance and are creamy in texture. They aren't as shimmery as some of the Smart Lipsticks but are equally as long lasting. I have the shades 516 (a bright pink) and 509 (an orangey red) which are both beautiful colours that complement a range of eye looks.

Velvet Mat Lipsticks (£6.90)
KIKO's Velvet Mat Lipsticks have a satin finish which makes the lips look smooth and silky, they come in a variety of matte colours including nudes, pinks and reds and are also very long lasting. I love the shade 613 which is a light pink, it's the perfect every day lip colour as it's fairly subtle and very versatile. I also own the shade 611 (a darker pink shade) which is a great lipstick for Autumn / Winter as it is darker than some of the other shades in the range and complements many of the colour trends associated with these seasons. The final velvet Mat Lipstick that I own is the shade 607 which is a classic red and looks good with pretty much any makeup look.

Another type of KIKO lipsticks that I have tried but do not currently own myself are the Crystal Sheer Lipsticks (£6.90) . These have a glossy finish but are available in a much more subtle range of colours than the Luscious Cream Lipsticks. They are a great option for those who want to add a small amount of colour to their lips without looking too over the top as they have a very sheer consistency. They aren't as long lasting as some of the other lipsticks but still look pretty on the lips and can easily be reapplied throughout the day.

KIKO Lipsticks

KIKO's packaging is also beautiful, everything is well presented and the layout of their shops makes it easy to find what you're looking for. I highly recommend their lipsticks and many of their other products as they are all of a very high quality and are an amazing (and much cheaper) alternative to some of the higher end makeup brands.
